Taking The First Sip...

For this week, we will be figuring out roles for the start to this project as part of the pre-production process. As far as the concept goes, our inspiration will be from the guided meditation workshop we participated in last Thursday. The workshop offered a complete guided meditation, free tea, and a drawing/coloring activity.

Our initial idea is consistent with what we’ve experienced at the workshop; creating some sort of immersive guided meditation experience where we gradually build an environment around the viewer as the meditation goes on. Then once the meditation is over, we combine it with a simplistic and interactive game using an instrument such as wind chimes.

During this pre-production process, we needed to put some thought into the environment we were creating as well as figuring out what type of equipment we need such as a metaquest and an immersive microphone, along with any type of assets we need. Will the audience be located within a well-lit cavern? Underneath a soothing waterfall? Or in a peaceful forest? Should we make it realistic and utilize the Unreal Engine, or should we keep it low-poly and create it in the Unity Engine? We’ve come to the conclusion that the Unity engine might be the best approach simply due to the experience we’ve all had with the software.

Currently, we have Kevin and Mayte working on creating a website for the blogs to live (hopefully what you're currently looking at right now!). Carlos and I will be working on a primitive Unity world for a test run in VR, Ilona and I will be taking notes for these blog posts, Alice (project lead) will be handling any communication with Tea Haven, and Zach will be supporting Carlos and I in Unity once audio becomes a priority. So far, our roles seem pretty straightforward: find assets, create a primitive world, and start testing the environment in an Oculus ASAP. We will be launching a VR world as soon as we can for a test run.

What’s left now is brainstorming any questions for Tea Haven in general. What can Tea Haven provide for us in order to enhance the experience? What type of music needs to be incorporated for this project? Hopefully, we find the answers to these questions soon so we can really get this project started!
